Platinum Metal: Things I Did Not Know

I have discovered several interesting things about platinum metal that I did not know. I wanted to learn about precious metals because I am going to have a ring designed for myself. During my research, I came across this information and it has helped me to make up my mind. I found that platinum has all of the features that I was looking for in a metal for my ring. I will definitely be having my ring designed out of platinum.

Platinum is the rarest precious metal that exists today. It is also much more valuable than gold. I was under the impression that gold was the most expensive precious metal, so this was news to me. Platinum is also very durable, meaning that it withstands scratches, bumps, bending, and other normal wear and tear. It keeps its shininess, even after years have passed by. This is important to me because I have a white gold ring that I love but it needs to be polished back to its original condition. Knowing that I will have a ring that does not lose its luster is very important to me.

I also learned that platinum metal is expensive. I was a little worried about this at first, but I have decided that the ring is an investment. It is something that I intend to keep for the rest of my life. It will eventually be handed down to my children. So, the price is not an issue for me after looking at the big picture. I am willing to pay more for something of high quality. Platinum is a beautiful metal and it produces gorgeous pieces of jewelry. I am happy with my decision to have my ring made out of platinum.

How I Bought a Platinum Necklace

Buying a piece of jewelry can be a time consuming process. I found this out, first hand, when I was looking for just the right platinum necklace. I had always heard good things about platinum jewelry. I knew that I wanted a necklace that would be easy to wear for someone with sensitive skin. The neck is a sensitive area of the body, so rashes from reactions to jewelry are easily noticeable. I also needed a necklace that was going to be durable. I wanted to be able to wear it more than just occasionally.

That was when I decided to go with platinum because I knew that platinum fit my criteria. I began by searching through my local jewelry stores. But the prices just seemed higher than what I was willing to pay. I also could not find the style that I wanted. Then I turned to the internet. The internet is a terrific source of information about everything. I was able to find thousands of sites that sold platinum jewelry. Unfortunately, if a website sells a product that does not mean that it is of good quality. It took some research but I finally found the right website and the right necklace.

It took time for me to find the platinum necklace that was perfect. But I did and I was able to buy it online and it shipped out immediately. I received my necklace quickly and I love it. It has proved to be exactly what I needed. It does not break me out, I am able to wear it as often as I want, and it has not lost one bit of luster. Platinum might cost more, but I have no problem paying for quality.

Platinum or White Gold: Which is Better?

The decision to purchase platinum or white gold is one that I weighed very carefully. I knew that there were differences between the two; I just did not realize the specific details. I did some research on line about platinum and the benefits of it. Then I researched the same about white gold. I was actually surprised by the results that I found when I made a comparison of the two precious metals. They may look alike on the outside, but they are two very different metals.

The first difference I discovered was the color. Platinum is naturally almost white in color. White gold is gold mixed with other white metals. It is actually light grey in color and is coated with a plating to make it look white. This plating will eventually wear off and the jewelry will need to be coated again. With platinum, I do not have to worry about the white wearing off because white is the natural color. I also found differences in durability. White gold is not very durable and will show signs of wear over time. Platinum, on the other hand, is quite strong and will last for a very long time, with little signs of wear. This makes platinum jewelry good for heirloom pieces.

The last thing I looked at when deciding between platinum or white gold was price. Unfortunately, I have to pay a higher price for the better features that platinum offers. Platinum is very rare and is more expensive than gold. The same white gold piece and platinum pieces had a very significant difference in price. My ultimate decision was to go with the platinum because it seemed like the better overall investment.

Platinum Over Sterling Silver: Is It Worth It?

Platinum is a very rare and very expensive precious metal. It has increased steadily in value over time and, therefore, in value and selling price. I discovered an easy way to get the beauty of platinum without the high cost. I bought a ring that is made from platinum over sterling silver! This dandy little ring shines like no other and I only had to pay a fraction of the price I would have paid for a solid platinum ring. I realize that there are a few drawbacks to buying this type of ring.

Sterling silver rings are plated with a thin coat of platinum. The platinum has a high durability factor; it is very resistant to scratches and normal wear and tear. The sterling silver is a lovely match for the natural coloring of the platinum and provides a good base for the platinum to sit on. Sterling silver is also not normally too expensive. I thought the combination was a little too good to be true, so I talked to my jeweler and got the facts.

A ring made from platinum over sterling silver will eventually tarnish. This tarnish can be removed by using a homemade jewelry cleaning mixture or by taking it to a professional to be cleaned. This was not a big deal for me. But then I found out that the platinum coating can actually just wear off. If this happens, the ring will have to be coated again by a jeweler. This was the part that bothered me the most. I did not want to have to pay to have a ring coated with high priced platinum every year or two. Over a lifetime, that can really add up to some money. I weighed my decision carefully and decided to give the platinum plating a chance anyway.

Platinum Price: Steadily Increasing in Value

When thinking about investing, I try to look at the history of the item I am considering investing my money in. I have made several investments over the years and have found that investing in precious metals is the most profitable for me. My preferred precious metal is platinum. A look at the platinum price over history has proven to me that it is a fairly solid investment. Platinum is such a rare metal and in such high demand that the price has increased steadily. There are ups and downs in any given year, but this is true for most precious metal investments. Gold is more stable than platinum, but platinum is worth much more than gold.

I invest in platinum bars and coins. I have a nice collection of bars and coins in my home, which is nice because I am able to keep track of my investments myself. This is also a little scary because these are dangerous times we live in. But, overall, my investments in platinum have always gotten me a large return. I will continue to invest in this most precious metal until the market demonstrates a steady decline in price.

Looking at another aspect of platinum price, I also own several pieces of platinum jewelry. The price on buying platinum jewelry over other types of jewelry is significantly higher. But just like the bars and coins are an investment, so is my jewelry. I might or might not sell it someday, but as it stands right now, if I did sell it, I would still make a nice profit. The price of platinum may be high compared to other metals, but the value of platinum on the market makes it a worthy investment.
