The decision to purchase platinum or white gold is one that I weighed very carefully. I knew that there were differences between the two; I just did not realize the specific details. I did some research on line about platinum and the benefits of it. Then I researched the same about white gold. I was actually surprised by the results that I found when I made a comparison of the two precious metals. They may look alike on the outside, but they are two very different metals.

The first difference I discovered was the color. Platinum is naturally almost white in color. White gold is gold mixed with other white metals. It is actually light grey in color and is coated with a plating to make it look white. This plating will eventually wear off and the jewelry will need to be coated again. With platinum, I do not have to worry about the white wearing off because white is the natural color. I also found differences in durability. White gold is not very durable and will show signs of wear over time. Platinum, on the other hand, is quite strong and will last for a very long time, with little signs of wear. This makes platinum jewelry good for heirloom pieces.

The last thing I looked at when deciding between platinum or white gold was price. Unfortunately, I have to pay a higher price for the better features that platinum offers. Platinum is very rare and is more expensive than gold. The same white gold piece and platinum pieces had a very significant difference in price. My ultimate decision was to go with the platinum because it seemed like the better overall investment.

Nothing says luxury like a platinum watch. Whether it is made for a man or a woman, a platinum watch makes a bold statement. Even among the most exclusive watch brands, platinum watches represent the top of the line. Nearly every high end watch manufacturer has one or more platinum watches in their lineup. The exclusivity associated with platinum ensures that platinum watches will be highly sought after.

Most platinum watches are manufactured in Switzerland. Platinum items are in greater demand than ever before. To supply customers with what they want, more platinum watches are being produced every year. In the last 20 years, the number made has increased more than tenfold. However, this still represents only 13,000 watches or so, a tiny number out of all the watches made.

Why are platinum watches so expensive? First of all, the metal platinum is more precious. Compared to metals like gold or silver, there is actually very little platinum in the world. The rules of supply and demand mean that the price of platinum is therefore much higher, typically up to four times higher than white gold.

Platinum is also much more difficult work with, so more time is required to make each watch. Different tools are needed as well, tools that must be set up to make a relatively small number of watches. Since so much extra work is attached to the process, watchmakers usually reserve their most complex and expensive watch movements for platinum cases. In fact, watch manufacturers prefer to showcase the best of their art within a platinum case. It sends the message that their watches are so good that they deserve nothing less than this highly prized element.

Platinum watches will definitely cost you a pretty penny. However, the beauty and durability of this highly pure metal is worth it.

Platinum wedding rings have become increasingly popular for several reasons. For one thing, platinum is much more durable than gold. Men are especially interested in this feature. It’s very easy to dent or scratch gold rings when doing physical labor or participating in high impact sports. The durability of platinum and it’s resistance to tarnish make it an excellent symbolic metal for wedding rings.

Another reason that platinum wedding rings have become so popular is that they can be fully customized for both the bride and the groom. You have to admit that we live in the age of the individual now. Everyone is looking for a way to make their wedding reflect their own personalities. Platinum wedding rings offer an opportunity to do this because there are more personalization options compared to gold, white gold or silver. Instead of spending time searching for the perfect ring, you can simply have the perfect ring created especially for you.

These benefits of platinum wedding rings come at a cost. Platinum metal is rarer than gold and is therefore more expensive. The price of platinum wedding rings starts in the neighborhood of $500 and goes up from there. The amount of platinum contained in the rings and its purity are both factors in the price of the rings. One option for finding rings at a lower price is to shop online. Most online retailers can shave a significant portion of the price off because their costs of doing business are lower. You can also find many sellers on eBay that carry platinum wedding rings. Although you may be concerned about the trustworthiness of online sellers, most sites like eBay have a well-developed feedback system that should help you find reputable sellers.
